# Read PDFs offline on iPhone and iPad

Save PDFs locally on iPhone or iPad and read them without Wi-Fi. How to import, check offline access and keep a separate backup.

## Make the file available before you leave

A document listed in Files is not always stored on your device. If it has a cloud download indicator, open or download it while you still have internet. Then import it into JustPDF using the share sheet or the library’s import action.

Use Import for an independent local copy. Link from Files keeps a reference to the source, which may depend on a cloud provider. Reader export and encrypted transfer require Pro; keep originals outside the app even when using the free version.

## Check the imported copy

- Import the PDF into JustPDF.
- Open it from the library and check the pages you need.
- Turn on airplane mode and open the document again.

This check is useful before a flight, a meeting or a trip with unreliable reception. A broken or unsupported source file will not become readable just because it was imported.

## Offline reading is different from an offline purchase

The local reader works without Wi-Fi. Downloading the app, buying or restoring Pro, purchase checks, sending support reports and syncing iCloud can use the network. You do not need a JustPDF account to read local documents.

## Keep an independent copy

Importing creates a library copy. Keep important originals in a location you control and export documents before removing the app. Synchronization is not a substitute for a separate backup.
